Road freight remains an important part of moving commercial goods between cities across Saudi Arabia. Whether your shipment is heading from Jeddah to Riyadh or to another destination in the Kingdom, good preparation can help reduce avoidable delays and make conversations with a logistics provider more productive.
1. Define the shipment before booking
Start with a clear cargo description. State what is being moved, how it is packaged, the number of cartons or pallets, and the total gross weight. Share dimensions as well as weight: the physical space a load takes up can affect the appropriate vehicle, even when the goods are relatively light.
Identify any handling requirements, including fragile items, temperature sensitivity, high-value equipment, or items requiring special loading methods. The logistics provider can then assess suitable transport arrangements rather than making assumptions.
2. Confirm pickup and delivery details
A city name is not enough to plan a smooth delivery. Provide the exact pickup and destination addresses, a responsible contact at both ends, and the hours when a truck can arrive. Ask whether the site has a loading dock, forklift access, narrow entrances, or restrictions on heavy vehicles.

Prepare the details before dispatch
3. Prepare your paperwork
Domestic shipments may need commercial or delivery documents appropriate to the goods and the transaction. For shipments that are part of an import or export movement, further customs and clearance documents may apply. Keep the invoice, packing details, and recipient information consistent. Requirements vary by cargo and route, so verify them with the relevant parties before dispatch.
4. Check packaging and loading readiness
Use packaging that matches the cargo's weight and fragility. Secure palletized loads, label individual units clearly, and protect exposed surfaces where appropriate. Photograph the packed shipment before handover and record the number of units given to the carrier.
5. Compare freight quotes on the same basis
When asking for pricing, provide each provider the same shipment information. Confirm whether pickup, delivery, loading support, waiting time, special handling, and any relevant surcharges are included. The lowest headline rate may not reflect the full cost if key services are excluded.
6. Agree on communications and proof of delivery
Before pickup, agree who will receive shipment updates, how exceptions will be reported, and what constitutes delivery confirmation. Keep the recipient ready to inspect the shipment on arrival and report any visible issues promptly.
